Daniel Wright - bio

As a native of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area, Daniel Wright grew up garnering musical inspiration from the likes of Terrell Stafford, Dave Bilger, John Swana, and Matt Gallagher. Being as diverse a trumpet player as possible has always been of the utmost importance.

From 2001 to 2006 Daniel studied Classical and Jazz Performance at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.  During this time Daniel was a member of Groove Brewery and The Very Tall Band. Both groups, the former being a funk band and latter being a jazz septet, received a Downbeat Award in their respective categories. While living in Rochester, Daniel was the house trumpet player at Geva Theater for two seasons that corresponded with his Junior and Senior year at Eastman. Additionally he played principal trumpet at the Merry Go Round Playhouse in Auburn, NY off and on between the years of 2006 and 2017.

Since returning to the Philadelphia Metro in 2007, Daniel has preformed and taught extensively in the area as well as taken opportunities to perform at a variety of venues across the Northeast United States and Canada.

In recent years Daniel has performed with The Who at Wells Fargo Center, Wyclef Jean, Gladys Knight, Seal, Kathy Sledge, Dee Dee Bridgewater at The Kimmel Center, Ray Chew and The Crew at the Apollo, Yolanda Adams, Ricky Minor, etc.

In the summer of 2018, he toured with Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter, Seal. From 2018 - Early 2020 he also played several spot dates with Seal including Miami Florida and Moscow, Russia.

Daniel’s current affiliations include The Rock Orchestra by Candleight, The Philly Pops (No Name Pops), The Academy of Music (pit orchestra), Ray Chew and The Crew, The Media Theater, and Legacy (@legacybandlive)
